Two points of clarification on the current problem set.
For problem 2, you are asked to show that the subgroup of the real numbers with addition generated by 1 and square root of 2 is dense.
For problem 3, you may take M to be M(2) and O to be O(2) as we've only discussed what discrete means for motions of the plane.
Do your best on problem 10 and make sure to read section 5.8 of Artin. Here "multiplication by g" means "the action of g as a permutation on S." Remember, I'll be in Lowell from 9-10 tonight if you have questions.
