The TFs and I were very pleased with the second exam.
I thought objectively that it was 5 to 8 points
easier than the first exam, but the mean turned
out to be 17.5 points higher and the median turned
out to be 19 points higher.
Clearly, many people are making great efforts to
improve. I could list about 30 or 40 examples of large improvement from the first exam to the second, here
are a few: 37-82, 62-92, 44-91, 25-86, 70-95, 37-80, 36-84, 50-90, 67-96, 14-63, 62-90, 16-69, 20-76.
Outstanding job!
The mean was 75.5 and the standard deviation was 13.8. The median was 79. 18 people scored 90 and above, 37 scored between 80 and 89, 26 scored between 70 and 79, 24 scored between 60 and 69 and 13 scored 59 or lower.
Tentatively, I would say that people scoring 90 or above have an A for this exam. People scoring between 89 and 65 have a B of some sort, with the median grade of 79 being a firm B+. People scoring between 64 and 50 have a C of some sort, while people scoring between 40 and 49 have D's. Any score below 40 deserves an F.
Thanks again for your efforts. Please continue working hard.
John
