Preclass assignment due with problem set # 28
Reading :
Stewart:
7.4: Exponential Growth and Decay
7.5: The Logistic Equation: skipping p. 543
Key areas of focus :
7.4. We've been studying this material, so a lot of it should be review. Concentrate some attention on Example 4, continuously compounded interest.
7.5: We've studied this from a different perspective in the supplement reading that you did last time. Skip Euler's method on p. 543. Read 546-7 for general interest.
Reading Questions:
1. Suppose that 20,000 dollars are put in a bank account with interest of 6% compounded daily.
Will using the equation dM/dt = .06M with initial condition M(0) = 20,000 give you an accurate answer to the amount of money in the account at time t? If the answer you'd get is not exactly correct, would it be too big, or too small?
