Midterm evaluations, Fall 2009 Math21a

Thanks for filling out our internal midterm evaluations! Here is a summary:

Textbook:

Summary: Mostly ok. Clear. Fantastic. Paying almost 200 dollars is too much! Some wish for more examples, one even more rigor.

Quotes: Its a textbook! Very useful. Not great but ok. Wish homework problems would be closer to exam problems.

Honorable quote: Too expensive text book. Prefer problem A,B,C,D,E!

Hourly:

Summary: Harder than expected. Practice exams and reviews were appreciated. "Practice tests were really, really, really helpful". Some solutions to practice texts could be better. Especially more explanations. Practice tests could be uploaded earlier.

Honorable quotes: "More time please!" Not as bad as I thought. "Death!" Crammed science center Hal C. Appreciate pop culture references in test.

Homework:

Summary: Difficulty level overhelmingly ok. Some think there are too hard problems. Some wish to have problems closer to exam problems.
Remarks: Exam problems are of a different type than homework problem. Homework problems can be more computationally intense, contain concepts from other sciences like biology, economics or physics, which we do not want in exams.

Lectures:

Summary: Sections are taught mostly effective to very effective.

Honorable quote: "Some more concrete examples would be helpful".

Website:

Summary: The website is considered well organized.

Honorable quote:

"Homework schedule could be more timely" "I love the twitter feeds"

MQC

Summary: Good individual attention. But there can be fights for the attention of the helpers.
Honorable quote: "The MQC is busy."

What we will do about it: Staff the MQC with more CAs. Group working. More organization.

Problem sessions

Summary Those who go, like it. But not enough seem to make use of it. One suggestion was to move tables for problem sessions so that one could work together better.

Honorable quotes: Go as often I can!
