Welcome to Math 23a!

Announcements for Math 23a:

The final exam will take place on Wednesday, January 22, from 2:15-5:15 P.M. in 2 Div Ave. #18.
Here is a copy of last year's final. Please do not be put off by questions that you do not understand, as the course this year has not been identical with last year's.

It is proving difficult to schedule an additional review session for next week, especially with Monday being a holiday. Instead, I will hold office hours on Tuesday from 11-4 to try and accommodate everyone.

You need not submit the deferred problems from homework set #10, but you are responsible for them as if they had been assigned.

The take-home portion of the final exam is being graded. Here is a solution set.

The in-class portion of the midterm has been graded and returned.
The mean was 80.2 and the median was 79.5 (out of 120). Here is a solution set.

The take-home portion of the midterm has been graded and returned.
The mean was 15.4 (out of 20, each problem 10), and here is a set of solutions.

The course meets MWF at 11 in Geological Lecture Hall, Room 100.
For starters, office hours will be M and F from 2-4 and Th from 12-2.

The textbooks for the course are:
1. Linear Algebra, an Introductory Approach, Charles W. Curtis, (Springer-Verlag), ISBN #0-387-90992-3
2. Advanced Calculus: A Course in Mathematical Analysis, Patrick M. Fitzpatrick, (PWS Publishing), ISBN #0-534-92612-6

For supplementary reading on many topics in the course, please see the Math 23a Supplemental Bibliography.

Sections and office hours with course assistants are found here.
