  • Prerequisites: Math 1b with a satisfactory grade, or AB-BC score of at least 4, or scores of at least 20, 8, 4 on the respective Harard University Math Placement Tests. Moreover, knowledge of multi-variable calculus as taught in Math 19 or Math 21a is recommended.
  • Text: Linear Algebra with Applications by Otto Bretscher Third Edition, publisher Prentice Hall.
  • Drop Date: The drop date for the course is Monday March 7, 2005.

  • Examination policy: 1 midterm exam and 1 final exam.
    • Midterm: Tuesday March 22, 7-9pm Science Center Halls A and B
    • Final Exam: Thursday May 26 (subject to change)
  • Grading policy: Midterm = 30%, Homework = 30%, Final exam = 40%.
Note that the lowest two HWs will be dropped when the overall HW score is calculated.
  • Homework policy: Weekly homework assignments. Problems are assigned each class and are due in the first scheduled meeting of the subsequent week, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Assignments will be posted on the course website (not this one) and solutions are posted on the Wednesday afternoon of the week the assignment is due.
It is OK to discuss the problems amongst yourselves - note the names of your coworkers somewhere on your assignment. However each student must hand in their own solutions that they have written themselves. (Copying someone else's homework is unacceptable.)

To make the job of grading easier, could you please follow the following guidelines for homework:
    • Write your name on your HW.
    • Neat, legible handwriting.
    • Write on ONE side of the paper only.
    • The problems should be in the order assigned.
    • Staple (or paper-clip) all pages together.
    • No late HW will be accepted unless first approved by Professor Taubes.
Email Professor Taubes (chtaubes@math.harvard.edu) to get permission.
Please also cc the email to both me and the course assistants when you ask permission.
Only two late assignments are allowed per student.
