QR26 Students,

I got a couple of "Huh?" emails wondering about the assignment for tomorrow. So let me try and clarify a few things.

First, there's your personal decision problem. We are supposed to take a decision we have made recently, or are about to make (or made long ago and always regretted!), and analyze it according to the PROACT method. Prepare something written for class. Also, one day before class (as in "this morning;" only 8 people have done this so far!) post something to the Web site.

Second, there's the Cuban Missile Crisis. Maybe not all of you are familiar with the story, which is why you got the handout. Think about President Kennedy's decision *problem* (try not to use 20/20 hindsight if you know his actual decision) a la PROACT. Write something up, and post something to the site if you like. Come to class Tuesday prepared to discuss both.

Third, there was mention of a diary in class. This is an exercise in personal growth. I know how easy it is to put something on the back burner if it has no direct effect on your GPA, but hear me out. This course is about decisions, and you all must have come to the first class wanting to know what was about. I'll bet you have made lots of decisions or are about to make decisions, and you're going to make decisions your entire lives. In your diary, you can record what you've learned in the course and apply it to your own life! Isn't that part of education itself, after all?

Fourth, Unit I exercises are due Wednesday in section.

Fifth, my Wednesday section will be held in the basement Mac classroom, B-11c. Bring a disk. If you end up in Paul's section, follow his instructions.

Sixth, happy Valentine's Day.

Yours,
Matt
