Problems for Math Xa Gateway 3

The third gateway will test your ability to solve several different types of equations. You will be required identify the correct solution (or solutions to a given equation).

Calculators are not permitted on any gateway test, including this one. You will not be required to simplify your answers or perform complicated arithmetical calculations. You will be required to perform straight-forward manipulations and simple arithmetic (usually involving integer quantities) correctly.

The gateway test will have eight questions on it. These questions are divided into eight categories (see table below).

The first time that the gateway will be given will be during lab on Thursday November 15.
Each test will feature eight questions. A passing grade is seven or eight perfectly correct.
Each test will feature one question from each of the eight categories shown in the table below.
If you don't pass the test on the first attempt, you will be able to retake the test from Xa lab leaders through the Math Question Center or from section leaders during office hours.
