Problems for Math Xa Gateway 4

The fourth (and last) gateway will test your ability to calculate equations for derivatives. Given the equation for a function, you will be required to find an equation for its derivative.

Calculators are not permitted on any gateway test, including this one. You will not be required to simplify your answers or perform complicated arithmetical calculations. You will be required to perform derivative calculations, straight-forward manipulations and simple arithmetic (usually involving integer quantities) correctly.

The gateway test will have eight questions on it. These questions are divided into six categories (see table below).

The first time that the gateway will be given will be during lab on Thursday December 6.
Each test will feature eight questions. A passing grade is seven or eight perfectly correct.
Each test will feature one question from each of the six categories shown in the table below. Two further questions will be selected from the "Chain Rule" category to bring the total to eight problems.
If you don't pass the test on the first attempt, you will be able to retake the test from Xa lab leaders through the Math Question Center or from section leaders during office hours.
The last day to pass any gateway is Friday December 14. For every gateway that you have not passed by 5 p.m. on Friday December 14,, your final grade in the course will be lowered by one full letter.
