Bouncing

When dropping an object the height depends in a quadratic manner on time. It is a simple concept, but a nice idea: it is used by seaguls to crack shells, by asteriod probes to deploy robots on asteriods it also has appeared when busting dams during war. The falling apple was programmed from a techdemo in 2010. See the page source for the code. The topic of bouncing objects is a serious mathematical endeavor. It is called billiard in a gravitational field. Here is a numerically computed picture which shows how a ball bounces around in an elliptical bowl.
