is of course influenced as I teach calculus and especially series and integrals
this semester. It is in general a good question what are the most dangerous and
frightening topics in math. It is not the incomprehensible gibberish which scares
it is the things we understand. Horror movies in children settings are often the
most frightening. It is the danger in familiar things. Nobody seems to care these
days for example about the "Grundlagen" crisis in math where we only know that we
can not solve it ever by Goedel. This can frighten. It is possible that tomorrow
somebody will show that any axiom system involving infinity is doomed. Infinity
is a fascination for kids. We were told this is the "god number" and that it is
better not to think about it (Cantor, Goedel and others all went nuts).
