Week 6

Here are some links and resources for the sixth week of the course.

Poll from lecture 13

Poll from lecture 14

Poll from lecture 15

This poll turned out to be a difficult one. Both classes answered similarly. The majority was not right. The fact is that both True-False questions are False!
A) is false because the function could be non-differentiable like f(x) = -|x-1/2| which has a global max at 1/2 and not at 0 nor at 1 and also not at a point where f'(x)=0.
Also B) is false. An example is the function f(x) = 1/x which is differentiable on (0,1) but which has no global maximum, neither on 0 nor on 1 nor on a critical point.
