The first midterm will be held on March 23rd from 7-9pm in Science Center Hall D. Midterm 1 will cover chapters 17 to 20 (omitting 20.7) and sections 21.1, 21.2, and 21.3 in our textbook. The format for this exam will be different from the format of our previous midterm exams. There will be two parts of the exam. On the first part, which is relatively short, you will not be allowed to use a calculator. This part may have problems on solving trigonometric equations, finding the exact value for expressions involving trig and inverse trig functions, and differentiating trig and inverse trig functions. The second part of the exam, on which you will be allowed to use a calculator, will be much like our usual midterm exams.
There will be a review session on Thursday, March 16th from
5-6:30pm in Science Center Hall A. The review session will
be videotaped, and you can find the video under "Videos" on the
left once it has been put on the website. The review
session, unfortunately, did NOT really get videotaped.
Review materials can be found below. NOTE: The Midterm 1 2005 solutions contain an error in problem 4(a). The algebra in the last line is wrong. It should read dr/dt = (250pi-5)/(10pi), which is approximately 24.84. This error also effects the 4(b) which uses dr/dt. The answer for 4(b) should be about 78,040 ft/hr.
